David Maynard

The Yosemite Peregrine Lodge was purchased from Don and Kay Pitts. Don Pitts, was the US Magistrate/Judge in Yosemite for many years. When he retired in 1992, he and his wife, artist, Kay Pitts, built this beautiful home in Yosemite West and ran the Peregrine Lodge as a Bed & Breakfast until 2012. The Peregrine lodge become an iconic mainstay in the park during the time the pitts ran it. Love was kindled and rekindled, and not a few weddings curtisy of the retired judge. Many wonderful and colorful stories circulate even today regarding the guests and judge pitts. Eventually they moved to Fresno and decided to sell their lovely home so others may also enjoy the beauty and solitude of Yosemite. Huge Soaring Windows Throughout The Lodge David Maynard and Vonnie Coombs are the new owners of the lodge. They are excited to be able to continue offering this beautiful luxury home for the use of visitors to Yosemite National Park. Like the Pitts, David and Vonnie share a love and appreciation for the outdoor lifestyle. Backpacking enthusiast, they have made many trips into the Sierra back country. They have hiked and backpacked in many amazing places in the US, Canada and Europe but consider Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevadas to be a special place. In 2005 they backpacked the John Muir trail, completing the 245 miles in Yosemite Valley. It was during this trip that the love and awe of the range of light was forever bound inside them. They both share many decades of camping, hiking, climbing and exploring Yosemite National Park. When not working, David and Vonnie can be found traveling, mountain biking, kayaking and cross country skiing or just sauntering in the back country. They love hearing about and sharing adventures with others. Since 2014 David has been the onsite manager and operator of the Peregrine Lodge. When not working on the property David can be found enjoying the park just like his guests. His interests are varied, he can be found evenings at Glacier point with his telescope, hiking the back country, mountain biking the local trails, rafting, kayaking, cross country skiing or visiting with local friends and family. David places a high priority on communication, and a little healthy education concerning staying, playing and vacationing in one of the most unique wildernesses in North America. Never been in the back country or in the wilderness before? no worries, David loves to offer advice and a unique perspective on Yosemite just ask. Otherwise he is content with giving you as much privacy as you desire during your stay. If you have an emergency while you are a guest just contact his office, or cal or text his cell phone at 619-948-8560. If he is not in a coverage area, he will check for messages as soon as he is. Checking for messages is part of a dialy routine here in the mountains where communication is never garuanteed or spotty at best. Inside Yosemite texting seems to work better then voice in some areas of the park. Either way, David holds communicating with his guests during their stay a high priority. His wife Vonnie is a physical therapist and currently is the rehab manager at a community hospital near Monterey bay, CA. They both desire to move to Yosemite West upon retirement and operate the Yosemite Peregrine Lodge as a bed and breakfast. Until then, they are happy to offer this unique home for the enjoyment of guests who appreciate luxury, upscale and artful accommodations in the middle of one of the most wonderful places on earth.
